I'm pleased to see Illinois State University post a job description for a Portal Developer to work on their uPortal deployment and I take a moment to draw attention to this opportunity here in this blog post.

One positive effect of open source software is the opportunities it creates for more interesting higher education information technology careers. One way for higher education institutions to derive value from open source software is to hire people to understand and customize the software and even to participate directly in the process for improving the open source software. One way for information technology professionals to deliver more value and to derive more satisfaction from their work is to more fully understand the systems they support by examining the underlying source code directly and particiating in the processes that develop it.

Looking for work in open source software for higher education but this Illinois opportunity doesn't quite work out for you? Consider applying to Unicon. This website often lists available positions. Regardless of whether you see anything listed on the site that sounds like your cup of tea, I'd welcome a conversation.
