Sessions and more!
Posted Thu Mar 20 07:57:04 -0700 2008So this will be my first JA-SIG conference and I'm really looking forward to it. The program schedule is jam-packed with sessions of interest to me, so I will be one of those participants struggling to choose between presentations.
But I am told that the real reason one should attend a JA-SIG conference is the people and that there are a few activities outside the general program to facilitate the coming together of conference participants.
With that in mind, I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to tell me about:
Powerpoint Karaoake (because I can think of people who might just be good at that)
and,
Speed-Dating (which I understand is intended to offer a chance to meet some of the key project developers, contributors and organizers)
I will also be very interested in taking in the Poster Sessions. Not sure I understand *exactly* what those are, but I suppose I'll find out.

Hello Mark,
You picked a good conference for your first. It should be the best we've ever had.
To answer your questions:
Powerpoint Karaoke: people contribute 2-3 slide powerpoint slides that go "into a hat". Powerpoint presenters randomly draw a presentation (not their own) and do a presentation.
"JA-SIG" Speed-dating: We did the at a couple of past conferences but I don't think we're doing it this time. We start by gathering a few of the "usual suspects" (well known developers/members in the community) and each sits at a table.
Anyone can sit down at a table and have a 5 minute conversation then move the the next table.
Poster Sessions: During the Monday evening reception there will be 15 (possibly more) tables set up where presenters can set up a "poster" about a project and give short demos.
